Do you know that each year we produce around 400 million tons of plastic waste? according to data from the UN Environment Programme.
That’s not just tons, but millions of tons—an enormous amount! And it can take from 20 to 500 years for plastics to decompose.
These plastics are not only harmful to wildlife, but when they break down into small particles known as microplastics, they are also associated with health impacts.
However, everyone can take steps to help reduce plastic waste and protect our environment. Here are some actionable tips:
Reduce:
Reduce the use of single-use plastics. Opt for alternative items that serve the same purpose, such as stainless-steel cutlery instead of single-use plastic ones or glass jars instead of plastic bottles.
Reuse:
When items are still in good condition and work well, consider reusing them instead of discarding them. For example, repurpose glass jars for storage, use old cloth bags for shopping, and refill your shower gel bottles instead of buying new ones.
Recycle:
Start by separating your waste into the correct categories. Then, collect and take it to a recycling center or a second-hand shop.
