Erasmus+ is one of the European Union’s flagship programmes supporting education, training, youth, and sport across Europe and beyond. Over the years, Erasmus+ has become a key driver of international cooperation in higher education, promoting academic mobility, institutional development, and global partnerships. The programme is widely known not only for student exchange opportunities, but also for its strong emphasis on long-term capacity building.
A major strength of Erasmus+ is its comprehensive scope. The programme supports student and staff mobility, joint degree programmes, curriculum development, and institutional modernization. Through International Credit Mobility (ICM), students and staff can study, teach, or receive training abroad, gaining valuable international experience. These exchanges enhance academic quality, intercultural understanding, and employability skills in an increasingly interconnected world.
Beyond mobility, Erasmus+ plays a crucial role in strengthening higher education systems through Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects. These projects bring together universities from Europe and partner countries to collaborate on curriculum reform, governance modernization, digital transformation, and stronger links between higher education institutions and society. CBHE projects are designed to support institutional resilience and address shared global challenges in education.
Another prominent component of Erasmus+ is Erasmus Mundus, which supports high-quality joint master’s programmes delivered by international consortia. These programmes allow students to study in multiple countries and receive joint or multiple degrees, while benefiting from competitive scholarships funded by the European Union.
Erasmus+ extends beyond Europe, welcoming participation from partner countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. By fostering people-to-people connections, the programme promotes mutual understanding, cultural diversity, and shared academic values worldwide.
For those interested in learning more, the Center for International Affairs will organize an Erasmus Info Session: Capacity Building in Higher Education on 22nd January 2025, from 13.30–15.30 hrs, at the Khaoluang Chamber Room, second floor of the Cooperative Education Building. The session will provide practical insights into CBHE opportunities, eligibility, and application processes for academic and administrative staff.
In an era where global collaboration is increasingly important, Erasmus+ continues to serve as a bridge connecting institutions, knowledge, and cultures worldwide.
