Life at WUIC, Home away from home.

Life at WUIC, Home away from home.

Have you ever thought of studying abroad? Have you had the chance to broaden your viewpoint, and watched the whole amazing world in another land that is not your motherland? If you luckily have grasped that opportunity, I strongly believe that you, sure, will have a promising journey which contains a lot of beautiful and mysterious experiences ahead of you.

Traveling to a new country is not something as easy as we always say, especially a different one from your culture, tradition or customs. One day, when you wake up in a place completely strange to you, what do you feel?

Anyone who travels far and needs to live away from home could understand this first step of adapting yourself to an unfamiliar environment. But you know what is the point? I mean, with time, could you ever keep the feeling of being in a place no longer belonging to you?

Cultural-shocked, difficulty in integrating, the lonesome, financial problems, language barriers,.. just to count, there will be a lot of disadvantages that pop up in your mind. As for me, that first imagination was also in my heart. A seventeen girl has never been away far from home, from family, from her safe zone now had to travel abroad by herself. Besides the afraidness, the worries the same were one of the biggest obstacles I need to get over. I kept thinking about my journey throughout my flight. Until I reached a peaceful university in the south of Thailand- Walailak University, especially my college, Walailak University International College- WUIC. This wonderful place has swept all the doubts in me.

People always get afraid of being treated indifferently and harshly when being completely new in one environment but the experiences WUIC gave me were different. The first emotion of mine when seeing the campus was that: This place felt like home. The peaceful and clear atmosphere embraces the Nakhon Si Thammarat town and the Tha Sala District. Located in a wide and green domain, the Walailak University in general and the WUIC in particular always has fresh and comfortable air, with a lot of fields, small forests, and ponds surrounding it. Not completely separated from the modern city, Walailak still has its beauty of scenery and climate. Not only the view brings you the ‘home-sweet-home’ feelings but also the people here will welcome you like you are the local resident, who lives the next door. I still remembered the first time when I came to WUIC and I couldn’t communicate with other people, there was a kind-hearted staff who picked me up from the hotel helped, and cared about me so much. Being with her brought me to feel like I was with my sister at my home.

Friendship is one of the most important factors to decide if your university life will be full of joyful and valuable memories or not. And WUIC gets the students who are more than just “friends.” With different cultural backgrounds, we- the WUIC students, understand the homesickness and confusion of one another, so we share more, we sympathize more, listen more, and help out more. In WUIC, we will spend 4 years together, we will go through a hard time, the up and down, maybe that’s the reason why we always protect and take care of each other. In class, we all strive to build a healthy and rewarding learning environment with high-skilled teachers and lecturers, who are willing to listen to our questions and wonders. ‘home-sweet-home’ feelings but also the people here will welcome you like you are the local resident, who lives the next door.
